Columbia Gas Transmission
Columbia Gas Transmission was under intense pressure to reduce costs and increase operational efficiency.
The search for more efficient methods of plant operation led to the installation ObjectAutomation’s open, distributed control system OAenterprise, designed for low installed cost and easy maintenance.
OAenterprise is installed at 12 Columbia Gas locations including company's Artemus, Pa., natural gas compressor station. This facility has Clark TLA-6, 2,000-hp integral gas compressors.
Specifically, Columbia Gas’s selection criteria was:
- Open-system architecture that would add flexibility and allow new technologies to enhance data collection
- Distributed control to reduce installation costs
- Field-device technologies such as plug and play, hot-swappable I/O modules, and self-configuring systems that would improve disaster recovery
- Technology that would enhance re-use of engineered solutions, such as object-oriented approaches
- Technology that would reduce maintenance and allow remote support
- Technology that is scalable.
OAenterprise was the only solution in the marketplace that met all of Columbia Gas Transmission’s selection criteria
